Girls,

today I will probably shock you by saying that there is no type of skin, referred to as “combination”. This is a purely marketing trick that is supposed to “encourage” you to choose specific cosmetics that (unfortunately) will not restore the balance of oily complexion, shining zone T, or moisturize dry skin. You probably see it every day: even the best creams don’t really work. They improve its condition for a few hours, but they will never put an end to your skin problems. Why? The answer is in today’s post where I show you some important facts about combination skin.

Combination skin – does it really exist?

As it turns out, no.

It does not exist.

I know that many of you will disagree now and think: well, how is this possible, my face shines in the T zone and the cheeks are so dry!

Yes, it’s probably true. But this is one specific type of skin that belongs to the same category as oily skin. It is a complexion known collectively as “problematic”.

What is more, remember that “combination skin” is a term that is illogical itself. It suggests that you have 2 (combined) skin types, which is pure absurd because … you cannot have two types of skin at the same time.

Problematic skin – the true colors of your face

The so-called combination skin is simply problematic skin – it is a common term for both acne, seborrheic, oily and combination skin – the latter has just a very “capricious” disturbed sebum secretion. This type of skin is characterized as one in which constant changes and a struggle for balance take place. What does this type of skin look like? It is a skin that develops on an oily base, often its “branch” is just mixed skin, or couperose oily skin.

The main, characteristic features of problematic skin include:

  • acne, pimples, blackheads;
  • enlarged pores;
  • painful subcutaneous nodules;
  • all types of inflammation;
  • a tendency to discoloration and scarring;
  • excess sebum (not necessarily on the entire face);
  • gray, dull complexion with uneven color.

How is “problematic skin” formed?

Hormonal changes are it’s main ‘ally’ – not only during puberty, when your hormones have the right to “fluctuate”, but also those that happen to mature women. Therefore, if you want to fight problematic skin – run detailed tests to determine the level of sex hormones.

Another factor that causes the formation of problematic skin is an incorrect bacterial flora it means that “bad” bacteria that can be found in our skin. Also, bacteria can intensify seborrhea and exacerbate acne lesions.

What are other reasons for skin problems? Of course, poor nutrition, that is, bad, dairy and gluten-rich diet, vitamin deficiencies or inadequate supplementation, exaggeration in makeup (excess of colored cosmetics with a controversial composition), ill-chosen care, medication (antibiotics or steroids), lack of protection against unfavorable effects of atmospheric conditions, stress, and all kinds of drugs (alcohol, cigarettes, coffee, and even strong, black tea).

Problematic skin – things to avoid?

It turns out that many negative factors associated with this type of skin can be combated by changing habits and by giving up those that work against the skin. In other words: if you quit a few, it would seem trivial – the skin condition will improve significantly in a short period of time. Therefore, if you wish to have a nice complexion, give up:

  1. Simple, processed sugars.
  2. Make-up (only for special occasions or use mineral cosmetics).
  3. Stress (easy to say, but light stress can be relieved by relaxation methods).

In other words – by replacing a chocolate bar dripping with caramel, with a healthy organic and wholegrain protein bar, and giving up on white sugar consumption, you are taking a very big step towards improving the quality and appearance of your skin. It probably seems to be trivial to you, but you will quickly notice the difference. Instead of coffee – get enough sleep, instead of sugar – healthy grains or vegetables (do not add sugar to your tea, or reach for agave syrup or stevia leaves), try to drink as much water and consult a good physician to select proper supplementation for your body and skin: your skin will definitely benefit from a good quality probiotic, which will be recommended to you by a specialist.

Furthermore, remember that everything that clogs pores and has a comedogenic effect (heavy makeup, mineral oils, silicones, talc, and often even excess of unsuitable natural oils, such as castor oil or avocado).

The ideal option would be if you could go to a specialist, and they would help you select natural cosmetics that will regulate the work of the glands and exfoliate the epidermis.

Also, keep in mind that problematic skin may (but does not have to) struggle with broken capillaries, which is why proper diagnosis is the key to well-chosen care. I hope that this post has opened your eyes on skin types and skin care a bit. Have a nice day!
