Although sleepless nights don’t bring anything good to skin, the ‘creamless’ ones might appear to be a great way to give your skin a kick and force it to start working in such a way to balance all the processes that take place inside of it. In other words – a night without a cream is considered as beneficial for oily, dry and acne-prone skin. Why should we deprive our face skin of nourishing substances that a cream is supposed to deliver? How does No Night Cream treatment work? Does it even work?

No Night Cream treatment – How does it work and is it worth a try?

The theory of No Night Cream is a kind of opposition to Asian-style care that encourages us to apply a few (dozen?) layers of various cosmetics, lotions, serums, creams, toners, herbal waters, etc. According to the theory of No Night Cream, the less means more. Why is that?

Astonishing properties of our skin

The No Night Cream theory explains that our skin is a marvellous creature that is able to regenerate, rebuilt and protect itself on its own. Its close and trusted ally is night – after all, at night most self-regenerative and skin rejuvenating processes take place. Also, sebum production is regulated during our sleep, and this contributes to creating natural protective lipid barrier of skin.

In the morning skin is beautiful, well-rested and rebuilt. And all it needs is… sleep 🙂

The supporters of No Night Cream believe that our skin doesn’t need any external stimulus at night. They also advocate the fact that our skin is equipped with a marvellous, natural protective and self-regenerating system. Simply, it has everything what is needed to completely rebuild its lipid coat.

The truth is that skin strongly reacts to changes that occur in its surrounding and is able to activate self-defence. The self-regenerating processes take place between 11:00 PM and 1:00 AM. During these 3 hours the most intensive and the most important reconstructive and remedial processes occur. For that reason, it’s considered as absolutely crucial to fall asleep before 11:00 PM.

Every morning skin reacts very actively to changes that take place inside and outside the organism. Frequently, the balance might be disturbed – not only due to improper care or application or ill-matched cosmetic but also due to an array of external factors such as exposing skin to frost that can lead to skin dehydration and broken capillaries. Skin – after eliminating the destructive factor – rather doesn’t need creams or ointments to restore its good condition. This means one thing: frequently, we are too overzealous in terms of taking care of our skin so we supply our body with too much (sometimes unnecessary) stimulants and substances that don’t only impede skin functioning but also they make it ‘lazy’. In other words, due to filling our skin with heavy night creams, we contribute to weakening its self-regeneration abilities.

The secret of beautiful and healthy complexion is paying attention and supporting the natural processes of skin and the very processes occur cyclically, in accord with its natural circadian rhythm. Owing to daily, arduous work skin is able to renew itself in 28 days.

Danger hidden in creams

As I’ve already mentioned it above, face creams make skin more lazy, and therefore it gradually stops working so intensively to rebuilt itself. The truth is that skin gets used to conditioning substances and, as a consequence, its natural balance becomes disturbed. The effect is that skin looks good only after being treated with a particular cosmetic. For that reason, it’s so crucial to keep our skin occupied with work for 24 hours. Thanks to this our skin will be, so-called, independent instead of being sluggish. In other words, skin won’t slow down its collagen and elasticin synthesis.

Face creams – When are they important?

Naturally, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t help our skin at all. It’s worth realising that we expose our face to the sun which, due to its harmful radiation, is one of the worst enemies of skin. For that reason, application of creams containing high sun protection filters should be considered as the core of our daily face care and protection. Moreover, we should do our best to shield the skin against all the external factors that influence its condition negatively: strong wind, frost, the sun, heat and toxins. For that reason, a day cream or a well-matched natural oil is a truly essential element of proper skin care.

Mistakes made in taking care of oily and dry skin – How to fix them?

  • The most common mistake made in taking care of oily skin is its excessive drying out and mattifying due to creams, foundations and ampoules. Then skin receives a signal that it has to immediately rebuild the sebum level and instead of balancing it and calming down – it starts getting double oily. In order to help your skin, try to fall asleep without applying a cream for 2-3 weeks. During a day, apply lightweight oils that belong to the drying oil group (they should contain at least 50% of poly-saturated fatty acids), such as perilla frutescens oil, fennel flower oil, hempen oil, walnut oil, oenothera oil, wheat germ oil and jojoba oil.
  • When it comes to dry skin, it’s a mistake to treat it with heavy, moisturising or even lubricating creams. Paradoxically, the effect obtained isn’t moisturisation but even greater dehydration of skin, that receives a signal to stop producing sebum because there’s already plenty of it. Therefore, dry skin should be left ‘alone’ at night and, secondly, it has to be treated with very lightweight moisturising day creams. Such a product won’t disturb the natural processes of skin.

What do you think about No Cream Night skin care? What do you prefer more? This minimalistic version or maybe the Asian one?
