Today I’d like to invite you to sit back, relax and read my post concerning the issue of skin discoloration. Apart from discussing the key aspect of this particular skin concern, I’ll also review three face serums that I find absolutely amazing when it comes to dealing with uneven complexion.

If this topic sounds interesting to you, go ahead and read on! I’ll be more than happy to walk you through this and help you get rid of these nasty blemishes.

What do you need to know about discoloration?

Discoloration can be described as all kinds of the unwanted spots and dark marks that appear on the skin to stay there for good. Acne isn’t a type of discoloration because it disappears with time. The mark, however, that a pimple may leave behind is a discoloration. In general, discoloration appears due to the disturbed pigmentation process that occurs in the skin naturally. Once too much melanin gathers in one place in your skin, you see a dark spot, mark or simply discoloration – there are a few names that you can use to describe this skin flaw.

The most common causes of discoloration are:

  • genes
  • overexposure to the sunlight
  • hormonal disorders
  • certain cosmetic ingredients
  • taking certain medications
  • wound-healing problems

Naturally, it’s better to prevent these blemishes from appearing than trying to remove them. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can follow. For example, you can try to protect the skin from the sunlight by applying sunscreens in the morning. It’s also a good idea to avoid using cosmetics that are formulated with photosensitive ingredients (note: St. John’s wort extract is one of such substances). Sadly enough, steering clear of discoloration isn’t always possible.

Can I remove discoloration from my skin?

Lucky for us, the cosmetic industry is moving forward incredibly fast and that’s why today we have a vast selection of products that help us improve the appearance of skin from the comfort of our home. They brighten discoloration spots, manage the pigmentation process in skin and effectively prevent the appearance of new imperfections in the future. You just need to know what to look for.

Obviously, you can also try removing discoloration due to in-salon beauty treatments. Microdermabrasion is one of them and depends on erasing pigmentation spots by exfoliating the epidermis. Laser facial is another treatment that may help you get a clear and even-toned complexion. This procedure deals with pigmentation that affects deeper skin layers.

I’m a strong supporter of home treatments. That’s why I’ve prepared the following ranking of brightening face serums that I consider the most effective and worth recommending. Before spending your hard-earned money on some costly and complex in-salon treatments, I’d suggest giving these cosmetics a whirl — at least they won’t ruin your budget.

THE FINEST BRIGHTENING FACE SERUMS

1. Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum

Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum

This one is literally the best face serum that you can use to remove discoloration from your face. It delivers remarkable results because the vitamin C added to the formula isn’t basic — it’s more of a modern and stabilized form of vitamin C. If you need to know the concrete name of this substance, I’d refer you to the official Nanoil website where you can find the entire list of ingredients. Apart from that, Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum contains Indian Punarnava extract which — from what I’ve managed to find out — has a strong antioxidant effect on the skin. The serum is lightweight because it is oil-free. This also means that it doesn’t form an oily feel on the face, which I love. My skin absorbs the serum fully in just a couple of seconds, leaving me with an amazingly pleasant feeling of fresh skin. If you apply Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum regularly, you can expect it to free you from discoloration and dark spots. But you know what? There’s more! This serum promotes brighter and even-toned complexion. I think my skin has gained a youthful-looking appearance ever since I incorporated Nanoil serum to my regular skin regimen. I find Nanoil Vitamin C Face Serum a multi-purpose product that gives me everything I expect it to <3

2. OBAGI Professional C Serum

If you have a lot of money, then you can try to upgrade your beauty arsenal with this OBAGI face serum. This product contains vitamin C but this time it’s the standard one (or I should say ‘basic) that is slightly less stable. Another ingredient is hyaluronic acid, which means that this serum delivers moisture and leaves skin smoother. In the long run this substance may deal with sagging. To me OBAGI Professional C seems to be a potent, highly concentrated serum that combats the signs of aging, brightens discoloration and provides UV protection. I do like the effects but every time I applied it on my skin, I felt a slight tingling sensation which means that the concentration of ingredients must be really high. My suggestion for you is as follows: If you have sensitive skin, I think it’d be better to run a patch test before buying the full-size product. I’m sure you can get the samples from Sephora or Douglas.

3. Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum

This is an interesting offering for those of you who want to kill two birds with one stone: remove discoloration and revive the skin a bit. I like Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum not only for its amazing design but also for the formula. Apart from vitamin C this serum is enriched with a few plant extracts taken from anise, grapefruit, lotus flower, peony, Baikal skullcap, tea, pyrethrum and rhubarb. This is a truly huge portion of nutrients served in a lightweight, gel formula. Despite having a gooey feel, Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop Serum is easy to spread over the face. I’m sure you’ll get used to it, especially after realizing how little time it needs to absorb into the skin. What are the effects? Klairs face serum moisturizes, brightens and gets you glowing skin. It also prevents premature aging and deals with sagging.

What about you? What are the brightening face serums that you would recommend? If you know some amazing products that I haven’t mentioned, let me know about them by leaving a comment below!
